I've got lots of leftovers
November 29, 2021
Hello everybody!
I hope you had a great week and an even better Thanksgiving! I can say for certain now that when you are a missionary during Thanksgiving, people will not let you leave their house hungry or without some leftover pie. Our fridge is filled of turkey, potatoes, and all sorts of sides that our wonderful members have given us since Thursday. We joked we weren't going to need to go shopping this week haha.
This last week wasn't just full of turkey day food, it was also filled with lots and lot of miracles!
Paris!
If y'all remember a while back, Sister Blanchard and I got a call from a returning member who said she wanted to have her daughter baptized. We ended up needing to refer her to the Narcoossee sisters since they lived in their ward boundaries, but since Sister Seppi and I are covering both now, I get to help teach her! She is on date to be baptized on the 12th of December! Woot woot! Her family is very excited for her and we only have a few more things to do before she will be totally ready!
Brad!
Brad is another one that I started teaching when we combined areas. He loves loves loves learning about the gospel. We teach him and his mom, which is pretty funny considering she can't hear half of the stuff we say haha. We had a lesson with him this week, and him and his mom kept asking the best questions. We ended up having this super long lesson and covered most of the principles we teach! We went over the baptismal interview questions with him and he knew it all! We told him that we knew he was ready. He wants to be baptized, but just doesn't feel quite ready. He was willing to come to the church and do a chapel tour, which was a huge step because he is a little nervous about attending church in person. So please pray for Brad that he will feel peace about coming to church! He is one that I am confident will get baptized when he feels ready and I know the gospel is going to bless his life so much!
So last week for p-day, our district went fishing out on the church ranch. Only 2 out of the 6 had caught a fish and we had been out there for a while. Me and two Elders were standing out on the dock and we just weren't catching anything. We decided we would pray and ask Heavenly Father to help us catch something. As the Elder who said the prayer asked for help catching a fish, he said he felt something pull on his rod, so he ended the prayer real quick and reeled in a nice little bass! Guys. Heavenly Father cares about all the little details of our lives. He wants you to catch the fish, and He's gonna help you do it! A little bit later, I caught my own little bass! Such a fun little experience to have.
Shanna!
We went on exchanges this last Saturday and I was able to be with Sister Cooper in Lake Nona for the day! It was a party filled with good vibes and conversations about food. The highlight of the day was when we ran into Shanna. We had gone downtown to go to the farmers market to street contact. As we were walking, we saw Shanna on a bench by herself. Sister Cooper suggested we go over and talk to her. We got talking about Jesus Christ with her and religion and she just opened up to us. She has incredible faith in Christ and was so grateful we were able to recognize that in her. We gave her a copy of the Book of Mormon and you know what she told us? She said "someone told on Thanksgiving this was going to happen." Guys. Not only that, she said that morning she just "didn't feel like going to the gym with her fiancé" She was all ready to go for a run, but decided to sit on that bench instead. Come to find out, the Sisters had been planning on going to the farmers market for a week at that point. We know God prepared Shanna for us to talk to. He is so good and I'm so grateful He let's me be a part of those moments.
Members!
Our mission is putting a real strong emphasis right now on member work and how we can best work with the members. We have been learning that it's not just about the missionaries asking the members to do things for them, but it's about getting the members to initiate help for the missionaries. Unfortunately, we don't have all the time in the world to fellowship every single person in our wards. A lot of what we have talked about is how do we make our wards have unity and make this one work, not the missionaries vs the members. Already, we have seen some pretty powerful miracles come from it. Sister Seppi and I realized this week, that the best missionary work members can do, is to be best friends with the people around you. Like genuinely care for them as people and find ways to serve them. Overtime, you're naturally going to want to talk to them about what you love, like the gospel. Then you'll be able to help the missionaries have people to teach and they can help you teach your friends. It's a big teamwork effort! I'd encourage all of you to reach out to your missionaries and ask if there's anything they need from you. I know it will mean so much to them just knowing they have your support!
Also! Light the World starts tomorrow! It is going to be so good! Invite your friends to listen to a Christmas message by the missionaries!
I love you all and I hope you have a great week!
