Hello everybody!
This week was miracle after miracle after miracle! It was amazing and an absolute amazing reminder of how incredible it is to be a missionary.
3 news
So throughout the week we have time set apart that we find people to teach. We will either look on social media, talk to members, go through our area book. All sorts of thing. Well...in a normal week for us we maybe find 1 or 2 new people. On Tuesday last week, we found 3 new people! By the end of the week we had a total of 5! There are so many people that have been prepared.Saved contacts
We decided we were going to contact a bunch of people one night and I had the thought to call Liz. Well...when I looked Liz up in our area book to get her number it wasn't there! Sometimes, if a person hasn't shown interest in a really really long time, their record will get deleted. Well...when I went to our phone contacts, there was Liz's number! Thankfully, her contact had been saved, so we were still able recall and she said she would be interested and that we could come by this week!
October 9
Our mission has a goal for each companionship to have a baptism each month. Our zone leaders encouraged us to pray about a date we should set as a goal so that we can invite someone to be baptized this month. Sister Van Holten and I did, and we felt like September 18 should be our date. Well...during one of our planning sessions, Sister Van Holten suggested we pray about another date. We decided on September 25, but it didn't feel right, she moved over to October and touched Oct 9 and I freaked because that was the day I had been thinking. But wait, there's more. We had a dinner this last week with a less active mom that has an 8 year old daughter that hasn't been baptized. The mom had to step out and get something so we were just talking with the girl and she said her birthday was coming up. And we said oh when is it? And she said October. and we said what day? And she said October 9!!! Sister Van Holten and I looked at each other and just started laughing and I'm sure she thought we're insane. The best part, the mom had started tearing up talking about getting her daughter back to church and was sharing how important she knows it is that she is involved in the church. Super cool confirmation to a prayer!
I threw it away
We have this one really awesome guy we are teaching. He loves what we share and is so amazed when we tell him about prophets, revelation, blessings, anything of that kind. The second time we met with him, he said he had googled mormon and asked a few people. BUT he felt really strongly he needed to come and talk to us and ask us his questions. We met with him again this week and he said, do you have anything for me to read. Like a brochure or anything. We were like, no what are you talking about. He just kept asking and then all of a sudden he goes, I threw it out ok! I threw the book you gave me away, and I want another one! Turns out his sister or someone told him the Book of Mormon was the devil's book so he got rid of it, but he wanted another one and now, he is reading bunch of chapters we sent him and praying about it!
Baptisms
A little girl in our ward got baptized on Saturday! We asked the mom if we could invite some of our investigators and she said yes and that she was going to have a nonmember friend there too! So one of our friends got to be there and we got to talk with the mom's friend! And I got to join in over zoom to watch a little girl from my last ward get baptized!! Yay!
Isaiah chapters
We had a lesson that was very much guided by the spirit that I consider a miracle. Sometimes the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon can be a little confusing, especially if it is the first time reading them. Our lesson we were able to pull things out and teach our friend and he completely understood what we were talking about. Best part, Sister Van Holten shared things from her personal study that she had shared with me, so that is just more evidence our morning was guided!
Sacrament
We had 6 people attend Sacrament! One on zoom, the rest in person. 3 of which had never been to church before! It was a little overwhelming to say the least, but it ended up being great, especially since it was fast and testimony meeting. One said he was feeling a little uncomfortable, until people started sharing their testimonies. One said he loved it and we found out later he gave it a 10 out of 10 to one of his friends. And another said it was very different from what he is used to, but he loved what people shared. It was an inspired meeting for sure!
So moral of the story for this week is that there are miracles seriously all around us! And there are so many people who are prepared and ready to hear the gospel!
