20!

August 9, 2021

Hello everybody!

This last week was super great! It was extra great because it started out with me turning 20! My district threw a little surprise birthday party for me, complete with blue streamers and cheesecake. Aren't Elders the best? Then on Tuesday, Sister Cook and I made spaghetti tacos for lunch (even in Florida traditions live on) and then we got some of the most bomb tacos I have ever eaten for dinner with some of the most bomb members ever! Besides tacos, we had a scripture study, did some service, and met with some of our friends. All in all, it was one of the best birthdays a missionary could ask for.

We had a really awesome experience this week with Priesthood blessings. Two of the people that we have been teaching are in a really tough spot right now. They have been struggling with a lot over the last year and it has been hard for them to feel like they are getting a break. We were able to watch a conference talk with them about enduring through our trials, which is never a fun topic in my opinion, but they were very touched by the message. We asked if they would like to receive Priesthood blessings of comfort and they both said yes. We met them at the church, which was a big deal in itself, and they got blessings. The spirit was felt, there is no question in my mind of that. The thing I love about blessings, and I saw it with them, there were things said during the blessings that were never mentioned when we were talking beforehand, but they were things that they had been struggling with. It was a reminder to me of how much our Heavenly Father is aware of us and our individual trials. I know those blessings helped them to feel of that love and strength that comes from the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

We also had stake conference this weekend. Saturday night's session was centered all around grace. They opened it up for anyone to share their experiences with grace and it was powerful to see how unique each experience was. We talked about how the Savior would come to people and perform miracles, and so we need to go to people. I love sharing the gospel because some people don't even know that Jesus Christ suffered for them, so I get to go to them and share that with them. Grace gives us hope. a hope that we can overcome our weaknesses and become like the Savior.

On Sunday, there were lots of really awesome messages shared as well, but my favorite was one where her focus was all about being a daughter of God. It reminded me of who I am, a daughter of Heavenly parents. And what that means for me. It was a simple truth, yet one of the most powerful. I have come to learn that once we know who we truly are, there is nothing that can make us think differently.

10 other things I learned

1-Polishing silver is very satisfying.

2-Sister Simmons makes some darn good orange cupcakes.

3-It is possible to go 0 miles in a day, but you also will probably go crazy.

4-Don't give a baby lizard sugar from Circle k.

5-If you need a tree taken out, just ask Elder Christensen.

6-We are Bob the builder and Fixit Felix

7-Spontaneous haircuts are way to do it.

8-We are not skilled at guessing chocolate flavors.

9-Roland is really good at following the Spirit.

10-Brother Adams is the man if you want some smoked meat.

I hope you all have a great week and find a reason to celebrate!
