Spiritual Overload!
March 1, 2021
Hello everybody!!
We had some pretty awesome experiences this week!
On Monday we had a lesson with a lady named Page. She is so crazy prepared to hear the gospel. We have been teaching her since the end of January and closer to the start of February we asked her to pray about a baptismal date. We hadn't been able to meet with her for a couple of weeks, but then she decided she was going to meet no matter what. We talked about her baptismal date and she said she wants to be baptized on March 7!! Everything we talk with her about from the Restoration to The Plan of Salvation to the commandments, she loves and wants to know more!! We are so excited for her to be baptized!!
On Wednesday during District Council, a set of Sisters gave a training on the Book of Mormon. They had each of us go around and share a scripture from the Book of Mormon that meant something to us. What I absolutely loved was that each of us had a different scripture to share and with each one, you could feel the Spirit as the missionary shared their testimony. As I thought of my experiences with the Book of Mormon, I realized I don't know everything that's in it. I'm not perfect at studying it. And I don't understand a lot of it. But what I did realize is, there are few scriptures in it that touch me. From those scriptures, I have been able to gain a witness through the power of the Holy Ghost that it is true. I love that I get to spend time each day strengthening my witness and that I get to share that testimony with others!
Wednesday night we had a lesson focussed on Lehi's vision of the Tree of Life in the Book of Mormon. In Lehi's vision he sees people making their way to the Tree of Life with the help of the iron rod. However, there is a mist of darkness which makes some feel lost amd unable to catch hold of the iron rod. We talked about what some of our mists of darkness could be. They are our temptations, distractions, and anything that keeps us from the Word of God, which is the iron rod. We talked about how once we have a hold on the iron rod, we are not sprinting to the Tree of Life, but just pressing forward. Sometimes that means just taking it one step at a time. Over time, we will make it to the tree and we will be able to partake of the fruit, which is the love of God. It was a powerful lesson to help me look at my life and decide what keeps me from feasting on the love that God has for me. I know that God loves each of us!!
On Friday, during my personal study I was studying Mormon chapter 9. It talks a lot of miracles and how God is still a God of miracles. It hit me that the Book of Mormon is a miracle all in itself. Everything from the records being preserved to Joseph Smith translating it through the power of God to us now being able to read it in many languages! I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon! During our mission devotional this week, President Ashcraft had all of the departing missionaries share their testimonies. One of the Sisters talked about how James' crowning moment was following the inspiration to write the verse James 1:5 so that a 14-year-old boy could read it in 1820 and following the invitation to ask of God. It was another confirming witness to me about how much of a miracle the Restoration of the gospel and the Book of Mormon is! I am so grateful that I get to go out and share this miracle!
We had another lesson focussed on faith. For me, faith has always been a trust word. I have the faith that if I do what I am supposed to, God will bless me. The person that we were teaching struggles when things aren't tangible, so we had to find a way to describe faith using an object. So we read Alma 32 where it talks about faith being like a seed. Sometimes, I think we focus on when we can already see the plant and we need to keep nurturing it so it keeps growing. But I think more than that, we need to have the faith to put that seed into the ground and we need to have the faith that it will grow. There is a time where the seed is in the ground, starting to grow, but we can't see it. We need to have the faith to not go digging it up to make sure it is there. It helped to realize that our faith can be at different stages. Our faith in the Book of Mormon may be a little tree, but our faith in Word of Wisdom may still be in the ground. I love that we can see how we were able to grow our faith into a tree for one thing, and apply that same hope, trust, patience, diligence, and every other thing that goes with faith, into another thing that may be just a seed in the ground! The whole lesson was a huge faith builder for me!
It was definitely a spiritual overload this week. I love all of these experiences! Missionary work is not always the easiest but it is moments like this, when I am able to help others' and my own testimony, that make it all worth it.
I hope you all have a great week!
