Weeks 1 and 2
Hello everybody!
I have officially been in the MTC for just over a week now, and what a crazy experience it has been so far!
Last Wednesday I got to meet my companion and district. There are only five of us in our district, three Elders and two Sisters. BUT they are all the best! We've been able to become so close, which is definitely a good thing because we have seven more weeks of this thing. Four of us are all going to the Tokyo South mission and one is going to the Sapporo mission (RIP Bench Chourou).
I have gotten especially close with my douryou(companion). Her and I are so different from each other, but we also have had a lot of similar experiences that help us to value and appreciate a lot of the same things, especially when it comes to the Gospel. We are constantly making one another laugh with the dumbest jokes, most of which include the struggle of trying to learn Japanese. The best one this week was when she said, "Wixom Shimai, when you see me at the airport, I'm going to be crying because I just spent 9 weeks attempting to learn Japanese, and I probably won't even be able to talk in Japan!" We both lost it at that point.
Every day so far can only be described as a bombardment of Japanese. Which is good, because how else are we supposed to learn, but it can still be overwhelming. We have spent a lot of time in this week and a half talking about our purpose as missionaries and how the Gift of Tongues and learning Japanese is a part of that. We are supposed to invite people to come unto Christ and it is hard to do that if we can't talk to them in the first place, and as we are trying to learn Japanese we don't need to do it alone. Our Savior is there and he is willing to help us and carry us when we are discouraged. I have heard "Do you best, and let Christ do the rest" so many times, but it is so true! All He asks us is to give what we can and then He will add to that to make it perfect.
