Apostles and 10 weeks?!

 October 31, 2020

Hello everybody! Happy Halloween!!

This week was more full of spiritual experiences than anything else. So to start off, on Tuesday, my district watched a devotional given by M. Russell Ballard and Jefferey R. Holland. Super cool. The whole devotional was based off of questions missionaries might be asking right now, especially because we are having to do things differently because of corona. They made it clear that missionary work has never been easy, just look at all the missionaries in the scriptures, and that just because we aren't able to do things the way we used to, doesn't mean we still can't spread the Gospel. They pointed out that the Lord has prepared us to preach at this time and it reminded me of what a missionary said during one of our workshops. He said that this isn't the Lord's backup plan, this is His plan. I just loved that so much. I know I have been able to see so many miracles and feel the Spirit so strong, even with everything over zoom, in the last three weeks.

The other thing President Ballard and Elder Holland focussed on was the Book of Mormon. They talked about how God knew we were going to need more than just our testimonies and words to act as witnesses for Christ, so He gave us the Book of Mormon to testify and be a third witness to our message. I had never thought of that before so my mind was pretty much blown, but that's why it is so important for us to read and then testify of it, even if you aren't a missionary. They promised us that as we studied the scriptures, they would come to life and we would be able to apply them more than ever before. Everyday in class, we spend a little time reading or sharing from the Book of Mormon and it is incredible to watch that promise come to life. I know that as we study the Book of Mormon and seek to find ways to apply its teachings, you will be able to! If you haven't read the Book of Mormon recently, I would encourage you to, there is so much power that can come from it!

We also spent time in a few of our classes this week discussing the Gift of Tongues. We had another missionary come into our class to talk about his experience throughout the MTC. His name was Elder McEntire. He was called to the Mongolia Mission and he is THE ONLY ONE in his district. It's just him and his teacher. AND he has been in the MTC for 10 weeks, so he had a lot to teach us. He told us where he was in his language at the end of his third week, and it was comforting to hear he was about where I am, but he said that even at week three you can see the blessings that come from the Gift of Tongues if you are truly seeking it. I have been trying to recognize those miracles, and the answer is they are there. They are just the small things like being able to memorize sentences easier or understanding a prayer, but they are there. I think this applies to more than just the Gift of Tongues, God is blessing us in all parts of our life, we just need to be able to recognize them.

It was a full week, but it was so good! I am so grateful that I get to be a missionary!
